Everyday there's talk about mental health but all we see are the words "mental health" and that's not enough for people to know more about it. We don't talk enough about different mental illnesses. It's always anxiety and depression and never anything else that is affecting a good amount of people. We don't talk about how to care for mental illnesses enough. We don't talk about breaking patterns enough. We don't talk about healing enough. It's always oversimplified how to go about mental health and that's why people don't get it. Also people are always improperly diagnosing themselves instead of just seeing a professional.
Another problem is we pick and choose who we want to support and who we want to attack and so this discussion on mental health isn't consistent at all. If we're going to talk about this, then we need to be consistent. We need more people to be understanding or willing to learn more. We also have to understand that having some symptoms of a mental illness doesn't necessarily mean you have that illness. Again, go see a professional. We need to take accountability as well. Everyone needs to actively work to become better people and work to end toxic behaviors. Everyone has to be more kind and more compassionate. People need to learn that there can be a difference in opinion without threats or violence or any other harmful language or behavior. I'm not even talking about big things like politics. People literally go so hard over differences in music opinions or dating preferences and shit like that. Everyone needs to calm down. People need to stop jumping to conclusions or trying to make every possible thing seem "problematic" too. Stop bringing up old posts and trying to make people feel bad for who they were YEARS ago. Me as a god damn high schooler is so much more different than me as a more experienced adult. Stop bringing up old shit and focus on the present and the future.
All of these things impact people as a whole population. We need to focus on educating ourselves and advancing ourselves so that we can become better as a society and with a better society we can improve our mental health and help others who are struggling more than us. Stop demonizing everyone and start trying to understand why someone is the way they are. We are all hypocrites at the end of the day and we should take that more seriously so that real change can happen. Let's work together for real this time and stop repeating the past mistakes of previous generations.
For information on dealing with your mental health, please visit Life Tips and view my posts because I talk a lot about this stuff and want my posts to be useful to people. Also, psychcentral.com/disorders/ is a good website that lists a lot of mental disorders with information about them. A lot of them include tests to see if you have symptoms for those disorders. Your results aren't 100% accurate so don't automatically assume that your results are your reality. But it's something to consider talking to a doctor, psychiatrist, or psychologist about. It's something you can learn more about, not just for yourself, but for your friends and family too.
